On Friday, September 25th, we will be hosting DARKMATTER at U of T. As student activists, we would like to invite you to participate in this workshop with us.
DARKMATTER is a trans south asian performance art duo comprised of Alok Vaid-Menon and Janani Balasubramanian. Based in New York City, DarkMatter regularly performs to sold-out houses at venues like La MaMa Experimental Theater, the Brooklyn Museum, Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Asian American Writer’s Workshop. DarkMatter was recently part of the Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival, the Lincoln Center's La Casita Festival, and the Queer International Arts Festival. Known for their quirky aesthetic and political panache, DarkMatter has been invited to perform at stages and universities across the world.

workshop: the revolution will not have a bibliography: student activism in the corporate university
description: Join us for a workshop at the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality that explores how the academic industrial-complex keeps us reading rather than revolting. We will discuss how the university generates apathy and inaction, and how we can use the university and its capital to our advantage to be in solidarity with social movements happening within and without. Social justice is not an extracurricular activity or registered student organization. This workshop is focused on practical steps around organizing and changemaking strategies. Note: This is a space for students currently involved with activism, and is not introductory.
